Last year in 2018 a Chinese scientist named He Jiankui claimed to have modified the genes of two babies named Lula and Nana, who were born by the in vitro fertilization technique, to make them immune to the HIV virus, the scientist says:

"No gene was changed except the one that prevents HIV infection"

He also indicated that the desire of parents is not to have designed babies but that they are safe from health problems, the surprising thing about this case is that the father is HIV positive but girls enjoy good health like any child according to Jiankui.

The citics did not wait for part of the scientific and religious community that crossed the procedure as something dangerous and irresponsible.

How is it possible?

The procedure is called CRISPR_Cas9, which is a genetic tool divided into two stages. In the first stage, the RNA is associated with the enzyme Cas9, which cuts the DNA in a specific region. In the second stage said region is repaired with a natural mechanism of DNA, this technique allows to correct the possible errors in the genes and in the aforementioned case improves the DNA response to an infection

Currently, CRISPR_Cas9 is used to test animals creating specimens for the study of medical conditions and genetic improvements are also made in crops to make them more efficient.
